I walked a bit beyond the grounds of the shopping center to the San Diego River which should be a dry river bed in this arid region, but not quite.  Because of it's location on the windward side of the rain shadows of the mountains, the area has an annual monsoonal rainy season.  In this scene, this broadleaf deciduous tree in denuded of leaves because the area is approaching winter, which, though temperatures usually don't go to freezing, it still gets a bit chilly at night.  The Tree is growing right in the river bed itself, which means the San Diego River, though seeming to be not there at the present, has really gone underground.
