In the Humor of a Bard

A song by Paul A.L. Hall.

Written in an old hotel in Brisbane, Australia, while on walkabout.  I'm not the first to bring it back in rhyme, Nostradamus also was among the many.

Of endless repetition,

I find not one small line.

For character is written

as passages recline

into a timeless wonder

of grace beyond content,

where suffering depravations

never wasted

were well spent.

And now the rhythm's pondered

into the metered line

and remittance is forgotten

for statements that will rhyme.

For beyond the shabby hallways

of forgotten old hotels

where rooms connect like fortresses

is where the poet dwells.

To give the world an utterance

all in a sentence fair.

And agonies and destinies

this slave will thus declare.

Who, never paid for his research

could see beyond all time,

and in the humor of a bard

could bring it back in rhyme.

And now the rhythm's pondered

into the metered line.

And remittance is forgotten

for statements that will rhyme.

For beyond the shabby hallways

of forgotten old hotels

where rooms connect like fortresses

is where the poet dwells.
