The misconception of pure

Why does radioactive waste take so long to lose it's radioactivity? Maybe because it has been purified. Man has been notorious at purifying things, often with disastrous biological results.

Things occur naturally in combination and mixture. Even things like oxygen occur in a diatomic state.
