The Maul is a Failure.
The problem is multiple. But some of the more prominent sore points have to do with the classical loop in the human mind over territory and what happens when the wrong people get
a hold of city zoning.
The result we can peek at before we get into any detail. We see the leviathan of the
legacy of ancient Rome. The shopping mall. Almost an amusement park. Enclosed and filled with
shops. Seemingly the object of prosperity but look again. Compared to what they could be doing they're barely getting along.
The solution, shockingly, can actually be seen in real life throughout Europe and elsewhere. There you see the village bakery, the butcher shop, and other shops. In addition, in every
neighborhood there are smaller shops and cafés. The concept is that if you only had the mode of walking as your sole transportation, you could still make a decent living and get by quite well.
Not so in the typical American city. In all but the biggest cities, you must own private transportation at great expense. The car is the next biggest investment to the privately owned domicile. Now you must drive that vehicle to shopping centers to get necessities let alone the other items necessary for your daily activities.
For this we have the problem of planning and zoning. The people involved in the present day disaster must be held accountable. There should be prison sentences and fines. Others need
psychiatric care. There then should be strict guidelines as to who would be qualified to handle such
extremely difficult matters, much the same as the stringent regulations are in place to govern who flies
commercial aircraft or who manages corporations and so on.
