Cry Me a River |
Cry Me a RiverWell, Let's be fair. Since man took to shipping, the opening of large rivers, where the sea met the mouth of the river, has often been an ideal location for a large city because of the potential some rivers had for water transportation. That was then, this is now. With the advent of the railroad and then the internal combustion engine, the need for the river presence diminished somewhat, but still, river boating is very important as a means of transportation. This does, however, pose a problem. The cities grew to enormous size and inordinate population densities. They therefore become excellent staging grounds for disease. Especially when those inordinately large cities exist in the flood planes of large rivers.
