You Speeka da Language |
You Speeka da Language?Look at the survivors of any pandemic. You will maybe come to notice a phenomenon I have discussed in articles I've written in this website and in my medicine weblogs about what I describe as "the biotic interface". A communication of sorts between the unknown faction and it's benefactor, the host of an infection. The unknown faction is sort of something like the contact and analysis by the aspect of the host's immune system that comes up with the correct way to address an incidence of infection. Trying to understand such things is like trying to know for sure how many indivisible units there are in a given relative mass. This happens on a molecular level and even if we could see it in such apparatus as the electron microscope, the problem, among many is where to look. But it does happen or else there would be no life left. Perhaps some of the aesthetic beauty we see in nature is the result of this biological dialogue and it's robust resplendence. So now we see the descendants of the survivors of the bubonic plague exhibiting a seeming immunity to aids. What's that all about? It's a kind of communication, a language if you will, that's happening so that a species won't be facing obliteration each time some virus comes looking for genetic material. Why would I be reaching for the metaphor here of "language"? Because it may be possible to induce one system to acquire the immunological "language" of another that has successfully adapted to epidemic contact with an invading infection. In the case of aids, for example, this may be even possible on an interspecies basis, chimpanzee and human.
