The Obesity Epidemic

Let's look at the obesity problem we're experiencing here on a global scale.  Isn't it hilarious how the know-it-alls are all pointing to personal problems as the culprit?  It reminds me of the time the infomercials kept telling people to have absolutely no fat in their diet.  I mean, didn't these people go to school?  Maybe that's another topic I should explore: the ignorance epidemic.  That's probably the greatest killer of them all.

The obesity epidemic appears to be the best indicator yet of global warming.  Many argue that global warming doesn't exist.  Well, the thing that doesn't exist, at least for the general public, and for the skeptics, is the instrumentation to measure such things.  But other forms of instrumentation are constantly around you in your existent frame of reference.

The body burns a lot of carbohydrates in the cold.  In wintry climates from the temperate zones to the polar regions the caloric intake increases enormously.  But even at equatorial regions the body has mechanisms that increase appetite when things cool down such as in the evenings, mornings and so on.  But even without deference to the cold, any situation where the ambient temperature's average or mean constant increases, there is a question of weather or not the body's urging for caloric intake subsides.

Apparently not.  It takes longer for the appetite to adjust to the environment, so it seems, because the biological adjustments of such things as the stimulus for food intake seem to be attuned to natural changes in environment which are very slow.  So people are not, so it seems, adjusting biologically to the changes in the unnaturally rapid rise in global temperature.  The change in temperature has shifted from geologic time to historic time.

This brings to mind a search for ideas of some sort of remedy.  For example, perhaps the adjustments necessary lie somewhere in the reality of the biological clock mechanisms in the body, or circadian rhythms.  However it doesn't seem likely that there is a function in the circadian aspect that changes metabolism, unless there can be a few surprises discovered.  If any surprises come up, then the obesity thing should clear up in a couple of decades.
