Blue Savannah, Violet Forest

"Blue Savannah, Violet Forest"
Oil on canvas,
1966 (The Greenwich Village Period).

This painting lost a lot of it's color in a second hand shop known as "The Ice House" and a flea market on the Outer Banks in North Carolina.  It's difficult as an artist, especially a poor one, to house or store the artwork.  I wouldn't have been able to do it but my late mother, Marcelle, worked very hard, particularly during my years on the road.  All the colors in the work were a lot brighter years ago.

I tried a bit of restoration, but I know nothing of that.  My Uncle was an artist and he suggested washing the paintings gently with warm water and a bit of soap.  That seemed to help somewhat with the other paintings, but not for some and this one was one that insisted on staying dirty.

This composition is of a traveler, once again, and this time trying to decide whether to go to the blue savannah to the right or the light, pinkish violet forest to the left which is just blossoming at this time of the Spring.  In the foreground the two elements of trees and savannah grass mix and the pathways intersect at his feet as paths of the color of the destinations.
