Four Planets painting Digital Art 1 |
Back in the sixties, when I was just a poor art student -- actually my father, who disagreed with my choice to become an artist, was paying for my education and living expenses, which weren't quite enough to make the food bills for the month and I usually faced the fourth week of the month without being able to afford food to eat, and that was just for one year, long enough to concentrate full time on art, often into the early morning to up to three A.M. -- I needed to do more paintings than I could afford to do on individual canvasses, so I resorted to doing many paintings on one picture plane, which changed from stretched canvass to primed masonite. As one critic put it, "linoleum samples". But I knew I had to make hay while the sun shone, and sure enough, the next year I was in the army and from then on I was on my own. When I got out and back into art school, my father wouldn't help out any more, insisting that it was my sister's turn. Hey kid, it's okay. Art school's a bad idea anyway. You don't get any Van Goghs from any of them. Dad actually did me a favor. So this was on one piece of masonite, divided into four sections by pieces of masking tape. The digital art above is from a photo of the first section. That gives it the oil painting look, because it actually is an oil painting to begin with. Since I probably did it at three A.M. back then, is might have even been done oily in the morning. But now, I have a terrific piece of masonite, the computer! Wow, this is great. I can do dozens of paintings now without even needing a canvas. Dad's also being a greater help than that last time back the the sixties. Where he is now, he really knows a lot more about what's really going on. Here is the thumbnail of the section, aptly called Planet One of Four Planets, and if you click the thumbnail, I've put in a link to a page showing the enlargement. I know, traveling the site is like a maze and the problem with artwork is it takes some time to download, so you might want to mark the spot for later when you have more time or get high speed internet access for an auxiliary computer in the living room or something. Bon Voyage! Thumbnail of Four Planets, Planet One. (click thumbnail to see it's page).
