The Foggy Sky
The Foggy Sky Actually there are two parts to the foggy sky that the fog is covering: to the left, the skyline of lower Manhattan is covered, to the right, it's the uptown part of Manhattan leading to the North tip of Manhattan Island, Harlem and then further to the Bronx. It was on this road, Fifth Avenue West (the park divides the avenue into two one-way sections) that I was to later run into a black Cadillac which was running a red light on the edge of Harlem. In the darkness I couldn't see the Caddie from the side. I was driving a taxi at the time, much later than the time when this painting was done. I was trying to raise the funds to get to Paris to continue my art education. Their principal art school was free, at least at that time. That was later in 1971 when I was living in the ghetto near De Lancy Street in the wild and wholly East Village.
