The Little Lake
The Little Lake Once I was almost late for an appointment at the department of parks for New York City, I was going to work for them the summer of '66 as a life guard at the Carmine Street Pool in the West Village. I got out of the subway on the wrong side of the park and started running across to the building. But it wasn't a straight shot. This lake was in the way. What to do? It was full of row boats, so I stuck out my thumb and hitch hiked across this lake. A nice guy picked me up on the shore and dropped me off on the other side.
